As a prep cook, you will be responsible for preparing all necessary ingredients needed for dishes ensuring high-quality standards and timely delivery of meals. The role involves collaborating with the head chef, following recipes, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. The prep cook plays a crucial role in supporting the kitchen staff by assisting in the preparation of meals and ingredients

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May be asked to train and oversee new members of prep staff
- Ensure adherence to food safety and hygiene standards.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Following the prep list provided by the Head Chef or other kitchen manager.
- Labeling and stocking all ingredients on easily accessible shelves.
- Washing, chopping, and sorting ingredients such as fruits, vegetables, and meats. Measuring quantities of seasonings and other cooking ingredients.
- Parboiling food, roasting vegetables, baking, reducing sauces, and starting the initial steps in various dishes.
- Cleaning dishes, washing cooking utensils, and cookware.
- Taking out the trash and sanitizing the kitchen area.
- Adhering to all relevant nutrition and sanitary regulations and standards.
- Keeping track of ingredient inventory.
- Collaborating with other kitchen and management staff to order resupply.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and guidelines.
Required Skills/ Abilities:
- Previous experience in a restaurant or commercial kitchen is preferred.
- Ability to work efficiently and follow instructions.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Culinary school diploma or relevant certification is a plus.
- Previous experience in a similar role.
- Food handler's permit or certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Lift and carry heavy pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment.
- Work in a hot and fast-paced environment.
- Bending, stooping, and reaching as required.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Job Hazards:
- Working with kitchen appliances and tools
- Working outside in elements at times
- Possible exposure to hazardous material
- Physical strain from lifting and moving program materials
- Exposure to large groups of people
- May receive minor cuts and or burns due to cooking mishaps
Compensation: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
